known by many as a " fountain of knowledge ”. On the weekends , he taught Black History classes in various schools in Toronto - a passion project to provoke young minds to know their roots , understand their history to not only recognize injustice but to fight against it .
During his years in law school , he helped found a newsletter for the students of colour on campus . By doing this , he and his colleagues created an outlet for a small community to collaborate on ideas and collectively provide a gateway of new perspectives for students of non-color . Taylor graduated with a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Windsor .
Throughout his career , and personal life he has contributed voluntarily in numerous efforts to help his community . He has worked tirelessly on several initiatives with community by being a voice for those who feel they do not have one . While living in Montreal , he was Editor of Canada Weekend Post , a community-based monthly newspaper , published and owned by Neville “ Nato ” Brown . Mr . Brown is a community stalwart who promoted African and Caribbean culture here in Quebec .
In 2008 , he along with fellow storytellers and writers including Susan Patrice , Martin P . Felix , Nick Patrice , and Winthrop R . Holder created the website Big Drum Nation , “ a free-access Caribbean creative journal with a focus on poetry , music , prose , visual art , criticism , theatre , bulletins , reviews , and interviews .” This website became an online community to transcend the limits that distance puts on people coming together to collaborate .
He has hosted and took part in creative and educational workshops as well as many publicspeaking engagements throughout Canada , the U . S and Grenada .
This dedication to the community has been a lifelong journey where he has also been willing to learn new ways in which we can continue to work with his community and collaborate for the betterment of those around him , as well as himself .
Taylor continues to offer support for his community even in his retirement , currently volunteering at various meal programs in his city .
Caldwell Taylor ’ s extensive African village includes his spouse Patrice Farray-Taylor , daughter Nzinga Taylor , son-in-law Greg Camacho , and his beloved grandson Carter “ Papa ” Taylor Camacho , many other close family and childhood and long-time friends .
The SpiceIsle Cultural Day Association of Quebec and the Grenadian community at home and the diaspora extend their gratitude and thanks to Caldwell for his long-standing contributions to the social and political development and nation-building of Grenada , Carriacou and Petite Martinique .
