Caldwell Taylor by Nzinga Taylor

Born in Paradise , Grenada to Joyce Labarrie , Caldwell Taylor grew up an inquisitive child with a passion for literature .
As a teacher at St . At Andrew ' s Secondary School , he left a lasting imprint on his students by educating through storytelling . Storytelling is defined as a " deep understanding of human emotions , motivations , and psychology in order to truly move an audience ." Using this method , he was able to cultivate young minds not only using personal stories but folklore to stimulate their imaginations , bring upon a sense of self through the exploration of their history ; and shed light on current political issues at the time .
Through effective storytelling , and a wellfound knowledge of history , he developed a great sense of responsibility for his community . Taylor has been vocal on the importance of one not only knowing one ’ s history , but developing a compassionate relationship with it , as one cannot stand firmly
for his or her community without having a strong sense of self .
These beliefs brought him into politics and in 1980 he was appointed as the Grenada Ambassador to the United Nations and in 1982 as Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs . These posts he held during the reign of the People ’ s Revolutionary Government of Grenada ( PRG ) which was in power during the period 1979 to 1983 .
During his political tenure , mainly based in the U . S ., he still remained active within the Grenadian community through public speeches and various written publications to bring awareness to those around the world on the current social and political climate in Grenada at that time .
After his political career , he settled in Canada and returned to his roots in teaching .
