Dawne Francois Honorary Consul General for Canada in Toronto

Dawne Francois was appointed by the Grenada Government as Honorary Consul General for Canada in Toronto in September 2021 , and she is well-known throughout the community and Diaspora . Before moving to Canada from Grenada in 1982 , she worked as a teacher at a private school before joining the Bank of Nova Scotia ' s Foreign Exchange department . She later became the Secretary to the Chief Technical Officer and Permanent Secretary at Grenada ' s Ministry of Agriculture and Tourism .
Ms . Francois pursued her studies and career in her passion , travel and tourism . Her first job in the travel industry was with Maple Leaf Tours and Travel as a General Sales Agent for CIE Tours and Dan-Air Airlines . She then joined GG Tours as a Cooperate Business Agent and was instrumental in launching the first charter flights into Grenada in 1988 . She took a break to raise her two daughters then returned to the industry as an Account Manager for Toronto Dominion Bank Travel Service , where she was in charge of corporate business travel across Canada . Dawne was then hired by American Express Business Travel as an Onsite Senior Business Corporate Consultant / Account Manager at the Bank of Nova Scotia , Bank of Montreal , and later at the Globe and Mail Newspaper , where she managed their cooperative business travel worldwide for the past 16 years .
Her negotiating skills allowed her to implement one of the most effective travel policies , resulting in significant cost savings for the Globe and Mail Newspaper . In 2000 , she was recognized by Air Canada for having the highest gross sales in North America , as well as by the CEO of American
Express for her outstanding customer service . She has also received the American Express Honor Roll and the Trendsetter Award . In 2014 , Ms . Francois was appointed as the Grenada Tourism Authority ' s Director of Tourism and Marketing for Canada in Toronto .
Her diverse skills , qualifications , community involvement , and solid knowledge of consular services and protocol , as well as her ongoing support for her country and the consulate in Toronto , have led to her involvement and holding positions in a variety of organizations . She served as a go-between for Grenadian organizations and the Consulate . She served as Secretary of the Grenada Independence Planning Committee , Chair of the Grenada Association Scholarship Award Committee , Public Relations Officer and Event Planner for the Fifty Five Plus Club , National Outreach Chair for the OECS Nationals Council in Canada , and VIP Manager and Charity Fundraiser for the Toronto Caribbean Carnival , formerly known as the Scotiabank Caribbean Carnival , North America ' s largest annual street festival .
In her role , she represents Grenada ' s interests throughout Canada and provides consular representation to bring mutual benefits and make a significant contribution to Grenada , Carriacou , and Petite Martinique through improved trade and investment .
