her to be self-sufficient and independent , especially seeing what her mother endured for her and her siblings . Ms . Mitchell always ensured her children had good values and taught them to love each other and others , even when they had disputes , she always reminded them to stay close and unite .
On approaching 100
Ms . Mitchell confesses she never expected to live this long but she always prayed to be granted long life to see her children grow up . She is grateful for being alive to enjoy moments with her children . When asked what she does to maintain longevity she happily credits eating local , exercising , and never worrying about anything . “ Worrying makes you unhappy ,” she said . When asked about her favorite music , without hesitation she said , “ Country & Western ” - anything by Charlie Pride makes her day . much water , add a touch of sugar ( a little sugar makes it even more special , she said ). Even her daughter Joanne admits no one makes pea soup the way Mom does . She never measures the ingredients but it ’ s still perfect ! She has that special touch .
Legacy
Ms . Mitchell is undoubtedly a little lady with a big heart . Sharing with the members of the community makes her happy . She is a selfless lady who treats everyone with love , even those who may have mistreated her .
It was an absolute delight being in her company . Her story truly made an indelible impression on me especially as she proved age is just a number when she demonstrated she can still do jumping jacks :)
She still cooks and bakes up to this day , but admits she enjoys the break when her daughter visits . Her son Keith always boasts about her Pea Soup recipe which she has shared with many , upon the request of her son of course . People have asked what makes her pea soup recipe so special and she modestly replies , ‘ you just really need to season it right ”
