Michael ( Mike ) Joseph

Born in St . Paul ’ s , Grenada , Michael ( Mike ) Joseph immigrated to Canada in 1967 . He is a retired Administrator of the English Montreal School Board . Mike has a stellar record of community involvement , and has played an instrumental role in many organizations in the Black community of Montreal .
In 1971 , with the arrival of immigrants from the Caribbean to Quebec , Mike recognized the need of an organization where new immigrants could expand their social network .
Hence on May 29 , 1971 , ten persons assembled at his home for an inaugural meeting to form the Antilles Sports Club . The two main competitive sports of the Club are netball and soccer . The Club helped to guide new immigrants through their transition to life in Canada , while encouraging discipline , commitment and integrity . The athletes were encouraged to achieve their highest potential in a positive environment , and were helped to thrive and be assets to their community . Indeed , Antilles Sports Club is still one of the most active and vibrant Sports Clubs in the community .
In 1972 , along with his wife , Avice Roberts-Joseph , Michael was instrumental in forming the Quebec Amateur Netball Federation . QANF emphasizes player development in a friendly , supportive environment . Athletes representing Quebec compete nationally and internationally . From the outset , Mike played a significant role in establishing netball in Quebec .
Mike is a foundation member , and was the first Vice-President of the Grenada Nationals ’ Association of Montreal . The inaugural meeting was held on June 4 , 1970 .
On July 3 , 1971 , he was the co-ordinator of a successful conference sponsored by the Grenada Nationals Association of Montreal , which was held at McGill University . The purpose of the Conference was to explore the areas where the Association could contribute in the
