A friendly smile , professional stance , and eager-to-learn attitude ! These phrases best describe the young talented business owner , Alex Marrast . Originating from Cherry Hill in St . George , Grenada , this creative genius entered wine-making after being enlightened by the mere sip of it . Having his first drink of wine at the age of 16 from a batch made by his father when he was born in 1999 . Alex was captivated by its taste . “ At the point where the liquid touched my tongue , it was an amazing feeling ; like a classic smooth masterpiece being played on my taste buds . It felt like a mixture of art and life and I became immensely interested in making my own wines . Through trial and error , constant research , and taking the advice of older ones , I was able to make my first batch of wine . Everyone loved it . At that point , Modern Vintage wines started to take shape .”
From natural jewellery to furniture to wood art and wines . He loved creating shapes , art and mixing liquids as a little child . That experimental attitude and love of art never stopped . He channeled this passion to make a business for himself . Here is his answer when asked about his motivation behind the crafted products and designs . “ It ’ s something like letting the materials speak to you . It says to you , ‘ Hey this is how I would like to be used , this makes me extraordinary .” So he takes time to observe and appreciate the boards being used and then comes up with designs and art that makes them Stand out most . It is sort of similar to the wines . Tropical blends of fruit wines , come purely based on creative innovation and knowledge of the fruit itself .
Modern Vintage Grenada can now boast over 20 flavours of wines made from local fruits and herbs , also a multitude of crafted items made from woods sourced in Grenada . As opposed to modern methods of making wines , Alex Marrast has chosen to use some vintage methods and aims to get as natural and ecofriendly as possible with his products . Nonchemical , Non-plastic , vegan friendly . “ My traditional methods produce the best-quality wines made with local ingredients that can be appreciated to the fullest . I believe that each bottle of wine is a unique art form , it should appeal to the user ’ s senses and transcend them to a place of fruity paradise . The smells paint a mental picture and entice you to have a sip . This is the objective of my wines . They are liquid art of the highest quality , meant for us all to enjoy .”
