Winner of Grenada ’ s Young Mixologist Competition
“ My name is Kimberly Sylvester . I was born right here in the Isle of Spice however , I was raised In Curaçao . I am a mixologist and entrepreneur and the founder of Mixed By Kimz , where I cater and mix drinks for events island wide .
In 2018 , I entered the hospitality industry as a waitress ( at the most famous restaurant and bar on Grand Anse Beach : Umbrellas ), interacting with local and international guests . During that time , I started bartending with a friend name BIll “ ondemandmixer “. It started off as a hobby and I thought that bartending was simply mixing drinks but as time went by , I learnt that mixology is much more than just throwing drinks together . It ’ s an art . Being a bartender is something that grew on me organically and I had a “ when you know , you know ” moment of clarity leading me to discover a love I never experienced before . I love what I do because every day is a new day . I get to interact with new customers and different personalities . There ’ s always something new to learn and I find great beauty and appreciation for such .
It felt like yesterday when I took part in pure Grenada ’ s Young Chef & Mixologist competition where we had to make three ( 3 ) drinks ; a mocktail and two twists on a classic cocktail , an experience which I enjoyed thoroughly and as the saying goes , ‘ time flies when you ’ re doing something you love ’ OR if you love what you do
you will never work a day in your life ”.
On December 21st , 2021 , I ventured out and showcased my talent as I went out and represented my island . Like I always say , though Grenada is a very small island , the people that were nurtured on this land are extraordinary . We are filled with talent and resources in which the world needs to see .
The name of my mocktail is called La Grenada . I can safely brag about the fact that most of the ingredients used were locally sourced and produced , including our local nutmeg syrup from @ delagrenadeindustries , which not only added authenticity to my drink but enhanced the flavour .
Secondly , I did a twist on a Mojito which is called Southside Herb . I live in the south of the island and the majority of the herbs used for my drinks were grown by myself in my garden , such as mint , chadon beni and lemongrass . and with
