It is said that it is best to give those who are worthy their laurels while they are still here . It is with great pleasure and pride that we present to you John Crow Alexander for his earthly laurels .
John Crow , as he is affectionately known as , is the veritable product of a Grenadian African Village , nurtured at an early age by his parents , grandparents and the wider villages of Birch Grove and Grenville , St . Andrew ’ s , Grenada . He studied at CUNY and graduated from York College ( BA – English & Journalism ).
He highly credits his family and community for providing the principles which guide him . He is a well-rounded and grounded individual . As a young lad , he bore witness to others caring and contributing to those in need . It is this earlier exposure to helping others which fuels who he is and drives him . He is undertaking multiple initiatives to give back to Grenada . John Crow is certainly deserving of laurels for his dedication and compassionate hard work .
He continues to undertake projects to provide food , material , equipment and services to the benefit of Grenada , Carriacou & Petite Martinique ’ s nationals . He is presently finalizing his 4th container to be shipped to Grenada . Because of the many structures in place during his childhood days , he developed some coping mechanisms . He was assertive and rebellious .
However , he knew well that when he did not conform to norms , he could feel the wrath of the village by way of a “ flogging ”, literally and figuratively .
At an early age , he was passionate about reading , writing and listening to radio . He knew then that he wanted to be the “ voice in the radio ”. He lauds the encouragement and recognition of those who helped shape him ; some of whom taught him in school , in church and community organizations . It was this dream of being that man in the radio which led him to be a TV host , a leader and a community organizer .
Since immigrating to Brooklyn – U . S . A in 1976 , he has been involved in many ventures which contributed to community development and improvement . He has a deep desire to see men treat women as Queens and to be actively involved in nurturing and raising their children so that they can grow up and be fruitful members of society … humanity . Many times , he has spoken out about men ’ s abuse / misuse of women .
