News Briefs CONTINUES REGISTER OF DEEDS LAUNCHES NEW ONLINE SERVICE TO OBTAIN CERTIFIED VITAL RECORDS DURHAM, NC – Effective May, 15, 2014, Durham County’s Register of Deeds Office will launch a new online order and payment system to allow the purchase of certified copies of Vital Records (i.e. birth, marriage and death records) recorded in Durham County. The system is called Permitium and can be accessed at the following web address: https://durhamrod.permitium.com/. The cost to obtain the certified copies will remain $10.00; however, additional charges are assessed for the convenience of online access and the ability to use a credit/debit card for payment. Durham County Register of Deeds Willie Covington strives to provide exemplary customer service. A knowledgeable staff and the most advanced technology available are tools necessary to achieve our goal of quality customer service. Briefly SHAW STUDENTS WIN FIRST AND SECOND PLACES AT RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM ATLANTA, GA – Evelyn Witting, a senior majoring in Communication Sciences and Disorders and Anita Ilonze, a senior majoring in psychology, won first and second places respectively at the Clark Atlanta University Center for Cancer Research and Therapeutic Development’s 10th Annual National Symposium on Prostate Cancer. Witting and Ilonze presented posters at the symposium held March 16-19, 2014 in Atlanta. Witting, a native of Durham, NC, presented "Correlates Of Prostate Cancer Knowledge Of Jamaican Men Age 40 Or Older Diagnosed With Prostate Cancer" and received $300 for her first place award in the undergraduate category.
