HISTORIC STAGVILLE PRESENTS JUBILEE MUSIC FESTIVAL JULY 19
DURHAM, N.C. -- The gospel and blues music that has touched the heart and filled the soul will
be celebrated with a Jubilee Music Festival at
Historic Stagville July 19, noon to 4:30 p.m. The
free program will offer live performances of the
Branchettes, Boo Hanks and Lakota John. Grab
your lawn chairs and sunscreen and plan for an
afternoon of uplifting entertainment. The Bahama
Volunteer Fire Department will sell hot dogs and
burgers.
Gospel singers, the Branchettes, have performed
church music in the African American tradition for more than 40 years and are past recipients of
the N.C. Folk Heritage Award. Surviving member Lena Perry now performs with Wilbur Tharp.

Master bluesman Boo Hanks has long been admired for the ability to play simultaneously the bass
and other strings on the guitar. The singular talent
has won him international recognition. Lakota
John, with ties to Lumbee and Lakota Indian tribes,
has mastered the slide guitar and plays blues with a
range from traditional to Jimi Hendrix.
