From The Publisher’s Desk...
Newspapers have consistently played an important role in the social and political uplifting
of African-Americans. Writers John B. Russwurm and Samuel Cornish published the
Freedom’s Journal for the freed African-American community in New York City in the 18th
Century. Frederick Douglass published The North Star to campaign against slavery.
Recognizing a void in highlighting the achievements and issues of African Americans by
Triangle general market publications, Spectacular Magazine launched as a tabloid news
magazine in 2006. Over the years the look of the magazine has changed, but never the
mission. Actually we have broadened that mission to include all people of color.
Last year we went through a corporate restructuring and in your hands you hold the first

issue of Spectacular Magazine, a product of Spectacular Publishing, Inc. It is our goal to

provide you with investigative news stories, human-interest feature articles, informative
columns, thought-provoking commentaries and calendars of events that will empower, enlighten and entertain you.

10 I rejoiced greatly in the Lord that at last you renewed your concern for me. Indeed, you
were concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it. 11 I am not saying this because I am in
need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be
in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any
