SPORTS ‘919’ - HOME OF CHAMPS BALLIN’ OUT By Lawrence “King Law” Davis After a very successful season by LeVelle Morton and the NCCU Eagles, they found themselves MEAC champions. This landed them the 14th seed in the NCAA tournament, placing them against a strong 3rd seed Iowa State. The Eagles fought hard but watched the Cyclones run away with it in the end, losing 93-75. This marks a rough ending to a productive season from the NCCU senior class, headlined by Jeremy Ingram and Emanual Chapman. Ingram averaged 20.8 ppg, landing him 17th in the nation in scoring this season. Chapman finished with 6.9 ppg and 6.5 assistpg, putting him as number 7 in the nation. He also finished in the top 40 in steals with 2.09/game. The Lady Eagles had a roller coaster year, finishing on a loss to Howard University in the MEAC tournament. The Shaw Lady Bears finished a great regular season with a CIAA championship. They went on to lose to Gannon College in the first round of the NCAA regional tournament. NC State Men’s team ended its season in the second round of the NCAA tournament as the 12th seeded Wolfpack fell to 5th seeded St. Louis. T.J. Warren led all scorers in the game with 28 points. 2014 ACC Player of the Year and Durham native Warren decided to enter this year’s NBA draft after the season. He led the team in scoring averaging 24.0ppg and 7rpg. The Lady Wolfpack fell in the first round of the NCAA tournament to BYU 72-57. Miah Spencer led the wolfpack in scoring with 16 points on the night. Markeisha Gatlin led the wolfpack this season in scoring and rebounding, averaging 17.4 and 7.2 respectively. After losing to Virginia in the ACC championship game, Duke men fell to Mercer in the second round of the NCAA tournament. Mercer, starting 5 seniors, found a way to come from behind and pull away to a victory against the Blue Devils. Duke looks to reload with a great recruiting class coming in. The biggest issue is leadership. Will Freshman of the Year Jabari Parker along with captain Rodney Hood return next season?
