Joe’s Diner
Joseph Bushfan is the Owner and Operator of
Joe’s Diner at 2100 Angier Avenue in Durham.
Bushfan is a former bodyguard to celebrities
including Bobby Brown, Whitney Houston,
Allen Iverson and Earth Wind & Fire. He grew
up in Boston’s Roxbury neighborhood where
he was neighbors with pop group New Edition
member Bobby Brown. Brown hired Bushfan
to handle security and from there Bushfan’s
storied career in security was launched.
Upon settling in Durham, Bushfan decided to open his own hot dog business after seeing a
need for good quality ‘dogs like the ones he had growing up. He started with a cart which remains
in operation today. His will, determination & tenacity has helped Bushfan achieve his dream of
transforming the corner of Angier Avenue & Driver Street in Northeast Central Durham to a viable
place for businesses and comfortable for people from all backgrounds.
Bushfan attended Cathedral High School, Massasoit Community College, and University of
Massachusetts Boston. He lives in Durham with his wife, Superior Court Judge Elaine Bushfan, who
he met at an Earth Wind and Fire concert in Raleigh!
Rev. Dr. Michael D. Page is Chairman of the
Durham County Board of Commissioners and
Senior Pastor of Antioch Baptist Church in
Durham. Elected in 2004, he served as Chairman from 2008 – 2012 and was re-elected
by his peers as Chairman effective December
2013.
He has a B.A. in Public Administration from North Carolina Central University (NCCU), a
Masters of Divinity from Shaw University and a Doctor of Ministry from United Theological Seminary.
Dr. Page, currently the Executive Director of United Christian Campus Ministry at NCCU, has worked
for Durham County Mental Health and Durham Social Services.
His background in Human Services has given him the opportunity to work closely with
Cooperative Extension and Public Health Department. Dr. Page organized and operates Antioch
Builds Community, Inc. (ABC), designed to assist in overcoming the challenges and obstacles our
community faces. ABC has been addressing these issues through their state-of-the-art Computer
Laboratory, Re-Entry and Transitional Ministry, Feeding Our Community program, Summer Math and
Technology Camp for Youth and the Academy for Male Achievement.
Dr. Page is married to Deborah Gyant Page.
