That is where momentum
comes in – along with a whole
new element of risk.
“For many years I had the
two most difficult dives in the
world but I lost that title last year
to Blake Aldridge, who now does
a reverse double with five twists.
“I’m hoping to get that title
back this year so I’m introducing
a front triple with four-and-a-half
twists.
“To fit in one more twist I’ve
had to introduce a running takeoff. I’m the only diver who does a
running take-off at the moment
but I think other divers will start
to follow because as the limit is
getting pushed you need to use
as much force as you can.
“I started doing a run last
year and I’m starting to get more
and more comfortable but I’m
still a little bit nervous about
that. It’s just a lot of dive. If I get
a bad take-off it’s going to be
very difficult to enter the dive.
It just makes it more and more
important to get that perfect take-off.”
Looking beyond 2016, Hunt is confident high
diving will soon be added to the Olympic programme.
“With the Olympics, I would say it’s just a matter
of time. The Olympics seem to be going to the more
spectacular sports and having high diving in the World
Championships has been a great success. They’re
seeing we’re not just a bunch of crazy guys jumping off
fear, redemption & momentum
cliffs. We’re a real sport,
doing. It’s not as risky as it
