SOCMA ’ s flagship event takes place in one of the US ’ s most attractive cities again this November

Sometimes known as SOCMA Week , the SOCMA Summit is an interactive event that seeks to facilitate informationsharing on relevant manufacturing and operations trends and regulations impacting different parts of the speciality chemicals industry . This year the show returns to New Orleans , at the Royal Sonesta Hotel , on 14-16 November . Full details , including how to register , are on the SOCMA website . There are four broad session themes , all targeting different professional groups :

• Operational Excellence : EHS Best Practices for Chemical Manufacturers
• Supply Chain : Trends in Logistics , Trade & Procurement
• Translating Sustainability to EHS : How Corporate Goals Influence Operations
• Executive Decision Making Registration opens at 13.00 on
Monday 14 November and from 14.00- 15.15 there are alternative ‘ speed-dating ’ style icebreaker workshops on the themes of ‘ Fostering a Safety Culture ’ and ‘ Totes , Trucks , Tanks & Tariffs ’. Attendees are invited to learn and share with industry peers about new and innovative ways to continually improve and foster a culture of plant safety , or trends and challenges in supply chain and procurement , respectively . From 15.45 to 17.00 , there are further workshop sessions on the following themes :
• Strategies for a Successful
ChemStewards Audit
• Import & Export Clearance
• Executive Fishbowl , a facilitated dialogue on key topics for industry executives and leaders The day ends with an opening reception in the exhibit hall . Tuesday 15 then begins with a networking breakfast in the same location . From 9.15 to 9.45 , there is a first general session entitled ‘ A View from Capitol Hill – What the Midterm Elections Mean for the Specialty Chemical Industry ’. ( The event takes place shortly after the midterm elections , which may see a change in the balance of power in Congress .) Delegates will then break into two parallel sessions from 10.15 to 11.15 on :
• System Integrity & Mechanical Reliability in the Era of Equipment Shortages
• Ethically Oriented Practices in Your Supply Chain The final session before the lunch break , from 11.15 to 12.30 is made up of three further ‘ speed rounds ’ on :
• Emerging & Ongoing Issues in the
Regulatory Landscape
• Trends in Trade & Procurement
• Executive Forum : Recruitment & Retention The second general session , between 13.15 and 14.15 , will look at ‘ China & the European Union – A Ten-Year Outlook on Supply Chain and Logistics Challenges in the Shifting Post-COVID World ’. This will take a “ forward-looking analysis of the evolving dynamics for the speciality chemical sector in the decade to come ”, following the shift of the manufacturing landscape . The day continues , following another networking break , with another
breakout session from 14.15 to 15.25 , with the alternatives this time being :
• Mining Waste for Value
• How to Conduct a Safety Training Needs Assessment
• Economic Trends & Emerging Markets The third and last general session , between 16.00 and 17.00 is ‘ Translating ESG to EHS : What Corporate Sustainability Goals Mean for Your Operations . Delegates will be able to hear from a cross-section of industry representatives on the impact of corporate ESG goals on business operations . The day – and the event for most attendees - wraps up with a networking reception and dinner that will include the presentation of SOCMA ’ s Performance Improvement Awards for 2022 . The morning of Wednesday 16 November is when internal committee meetings take place . •
