Article 24 & other areas
Also on 15 October , amendments to Article 24 of the enforcement rules for K-REACH entered into force . This means that , going forward , registrants will be able to discuss the results of hazard evaluations carried out by the NIER . This is an important development , which has been welcomed by industry because the results of these evaluations form the basis for the designation of toxic chemicals in the country . Companies are also advised to pay attention to the following updates that have been introduced or discussed :
• The registration of nanomaterials in South Korea is still at a very early stage
• The discussion of ‘ sameness ’ is currently quite popular under K-REACH , especially for unknown or variable composition , complex reaction products or of biological materials ( UVCBs ) and multiconstituent substances
• Discussions regarding polymers are also been underway , especially for Polymers of Low Concern ( PLC ). The reviewer – Korean Environment Corporation – requires a lot of information to confirm a PLC , including a GPC analysis report , monomer information and testing reports regarding residual monomers
• A guidance report regarding classifying hazardous substances in mixtures was also published on 30 June 2022
• Companies also need to pay attention to all the upcoming deadlines for K-REACH grace periods •
