Verdant buys Baze

PharmaZell , Novasep to merge
PharmaZell , a German-based producer of speciality APIs , and France ’ s CDMO Groupe Novasep have revealed plans to merge under the ownership of PharmaZell ’ s current majority shareholder , private equity firm Bridgepoint . This remains subject to consultation with employees and other closing conditions . The two said that this would create “ a leading European platform in the attractive API manufacturing and CDMO space with a complementary set of differentiated technologies and highly diversified base of bluechip pharma and biotech customers ”. It will have revenues of about € 500 million / year and nearly 2,000 employees across seven production and R & D sites in Europe , two in India and one in the US Novasep ’ s specialised capabilities include high energy and cryogenic chemistries , industrial scale chromatography , ADCs and HPAPIs , particularly for cancer treatment . This would be “ highly complementary ” to PharmaZell ’ s expertise in the manufacturing of complex APIs requiring special handling procedures or technologies , it was claimed . Subsequently , Novasep launched Hipersep Process M , a commercialscale HPLC chromatography system for the purification of pharmaceutical molecules such as peptides , oligonucleotides , insulin and others . This , the company said “ is faster , safer , and more productive than ever ”. The new system builds on the Hipersep Pilot , which was launched in 2017 . Like the entire HPLC line , it can operate at up to 100 bars pressure . It is also suited for purification at high ( up to 85 ° C ) temperatures , which are managed and maintained autonomously by a system of thermoregulation functions , and is compatible with Novasep ’ s Prochrom LC110 to LC450 mm columns .
Verdant Specialty Solutions has acquired its US compatriot Baze Chemical from the founder , Curtis Baze . Baze is based at Odessa , Texas , employs 82 employees and mainly supplies ethoxylates for the oil and gas production , water treatment and mining industries . Baze ’ s four facilities on the Gulf Coast include a 12,000 m 2 surfactants manufacturing and custom alkoxylation facility in Palestine , Texas . This has six flexible reactors for EO and PO , abundant storage and significant capacity for growth , Verdant said . Another at Liberty , Texas , manufactures fatty acids and derivatives , fatty amine salts and acetates , surfactants , quaternary ammonium , aminophosphonates and polymers . Baze also makes corrosion inhibitors , emulsion breakers , paraffin inhibitors , scale inhibitors and water clarifiers at Odessa and New Iberia , Louisiana . Many of Baze ’ s oilfield products have potential applications in Verdant ’ s core markets of personal care , home and hygiene , agrochemicals , paints and coatings . In all , it will have over 375 surfactants and speciality products in its portfolio . This is the second acquisition Verdant has made since being carved out of Solvay under the ownership of OpenGate Capital . In July , it bought DeForest Enterprises and ParaFlow Energy Solutions in a single transaction from Chemical Services Group
