Coffee is the flagship ingredient

in our lives , finding a place in everyone ’ s daily routine . Morning , noon or evening , a dose of caffeine brings comfort and energy to our body . We drink 2.2 billion of cups , equating to 22,000 tonnes , every day . That makes for a lot of used coffee grounds . Coffee grounds are known to be an excellent natural fertiliser and are often used in gardening . They are also incorporated as a beauty ingredient in certain exfoliating products . In cosmetics , coffee extract is mainly used in body care products for its slimming properties , whereas coffee grounds are used in face scrubs . Coffee contains antioxidants , such as polyphenols . These are not only very powerful , they have the advantage of being very well assimilated by the body and can protect the skin from ageing by delaying the appearance of wrinkles , and avoiding dryness , the loss of firmness , the appearance of spots and skin irritation . Even so , 99 % of coffee grounds currently become waste . This is why Givaudan Active Beauty has decided to join forces with the Danish biotechnology start-up Kaffe Bueno , ‣
