CONTRACT & TOLL MANUFACTURING
Safapac has re-focused its production capabilities
‣ environmentally conscious world . As ever , this is something for which BCMPA members have already been preparing . Libra recently launched its ‘ Greener Chemistries ’ initiative which it sees being at the forefront of driving change in this area . The programme includes the prevention of waste and maximising energy use , as well as improving the sustainability of packaging materials with the introduction of biodegradable and recyclable options . Mirius has developed numerous plant-based cleaning products in order to meet the growing demand for these from supermarkets and grocery retailers . The use of recycled materials in packaging and the availability of refillable and reusable packs are also increasing . For Safapac the focus has been on maximising internal processes , to minimise CO 2 and energy use , as well as working to meet the particular requirements of the forthcoming Packaging Waste Directive in the UK . JT Grosvenor has looked at sustainability in its widest sense as part of an overall corporate and social
responsibility approach to business and invested in its site and local environment , including improving an access road , to build its profile and standing in the community . “ As a manufacturer of chemicals , we recognise the importance of our reputation within the local community ; and investment in our facility that also takes into account the needs of our neighbours , ensures that we continue to maintain excellent relationships ,” explains Sanderson .
The partnership approach
Indeed , relationships are key to the outsourcing sector and for many BCMPA members , their work with customers has evolved into a ‘ total partner ’ approach with a full-service offering that covers everything for the client , from product development through manufacturing and packing to final delivery . One of the main benefits of this is that it enables the chemical company to focus wholly on building its business and its brands . Strong relationships with suppliers are also essential for CMOs , particularly to help navigate the challenges currently
in transportation and supply chain management with increased costs and difficulties in shipping . “ We have forged exceptional relationships with our supply partners , and it is fair to say that through this , our buying teams have been able to manage our raw materials exceptionally well ,” says Langdon at Mirius . Long-standing partnerships , combined with effective planning , have clearly delivered the service that speciality chemicals customers need , and this approach is also one that has ensured we deliver as an industry association . “ The BCMPA has been immensely valuable to us ,” agrees Dutton at Libra . “ There have been countless times where commercial opportunities have led to long and lasting sustainable collaborations and they have all added to our continued success .” These words resonate not just for the BCMPA but for the outsourcing sector as a whole . By working in partnership , our industry delivers the specialist manufacturing support , innovation and speed to market that the speciality chemical sector demands – even in a constantly changing world . •
