Carbogen Amcis is planning significant investment after years of constant growth

Swiss-based CDMO Carbogen

Amcis has announced two major expansion projects over the next four years at a cost of over € 90 million . This follows six years of constant growth for the company , a subsidiary of India ’ s Dishman Group ,
which aims to address continually growing market demand . At Hunzenschwil in Switzerland , Carbogen Amcis will build a new API facility in several stages between 2021 and 2024 , when it will begin operations . This will comprise 12 new vessels from 630 to 4,000 litres in capacity , plus associated filtration and drying capabilities . It will also add chromatography equipment , new reactors and new laboratories to improve some of the existing technologies . The new API plant will be up to the latest quality standard , using a wide variety of different technologies , the company says .
The focus will be rather different at the new facility dedicated to custom development and manufacturing of parenteral drug products . This is located 7 km from the facility at Riom in France , which Carbogen Amcis brought from Créapharm about ten years ago . “ It has always been a dream for us to be involved in finished dosage forms and we have always believed that if you want to go into something , you had better learn about what it is all about first ,” says Griffiths . “ We bought the facility to learn about formulation and the formulation market .”

New capabilities
Centrifugation is the key new capability being added at this site , according to CEO Mark Griffiths . Traditionally , the company has not had this at manufacturing scale and has only used filter-dryers . “ Some products don ’ t filter well , so having more tools like this and a liquid processing line for distillation will help ,” he says .
