COLORGLASS and MULTIGLASS , the rolling machines for coating , enamelling and printing designs on flat glass sheets , were redesigned to prolong the life of some specific components , namely cylinders and doctor blades . In the past , these machines were equipped with steel cylinders and steel rollers coated with soft rubber . Nowadays , however , the rollers have been replaced by pneumatically expanding steel mandrels : these are drums on which rubberized and engraved sleeves are mounted . When mounting , compressed air is used to expand the sleeve during insertion : when machining , without compressed air , the sleeve remains fixed to the mandrel and doesn ’ t slip off . This innovation brings many benefits to customers for several reasons : firstly , handling becomes easier , lighter and user-friendly for operators . In previous models , steel cylinders were difficult to change over because they were very heavy and expensive to replace . The sleeves , on the other hand , are lighter , available for all machine widths and allow space-saving vertical storage : in addition , this system is very cost-effective because it is less expensive and the mandrels are not subject to wear . To further improve the efficiency and durability of spare parts , the doctor blades have also been replaced by a model that uses a special plastic material instead of steel , which is wearresistant and has a low coefficient of friction : thanks to this innovation , the life cycle of the engraved sleeves has been significantly increased , with consequent economic advantages for the customer . Still , on the subject of doctor blades , Rollmac technicians have introduced a horizontal movement instead of an angular one , which guarantees the same angle and point of support on the engraved sleeve , thus maintaining stable working parameters , i . e . capacity and effect .
