Who is GIMAV tors that have limited accesss to them ” remarks director Fabrizio Cattaneo . “ And this has been made possible by shifting the focus of sales , usually more strongly export driven , towards greater coverage of the national market , where most of the machinery and technology delivered is made in Italy . Pending a return to normality at international level , this increased presence on the national market is certainly a good sign .”
Gimav is the Association of Italian manufacturers and suppliers of machinery , equipment and special products for glass processing . Set up in 1980 by a small group of businessmen , Gimav plays a fundamental role in the entire glass industry both nationally and internationally . As a member of Confindustria and Federmacchine , Gimav , in the course of its activity , has considerably strengthened its representative presence in the entire glass processing industry and now plays an indispensable role in relations with all private and public institutions . The sales volume of GIMAV member companies accounts for approx . 80 % of the industry ’ s total turnover and for 77 % of total exports by Italian manufacturers of machinery , accessories and special products for glass processing . As a result of its efficacious and creditable activities , the Association enjoys the outstanding loyalty of its members , whose number has grown steadily over the years . The first members were later joined by large industrial groups and , above all , by small and medium-sized companies which are the true face and the backbone of the industry . The importance of each participant , mutual respect , and the fact that everybody is given the opportunity to participate and contribute to the Association ’ s political and management decisions have spawned a cohesive group with a strong international nature .
The first four months of 2022 In the wake of the growth recorded in 2021 , the sector ’ s turnover in the first four months of 2022 was up by 13.7 % compared with the same period last year . And if we take the pre-pandemic period ( 2019 ) as our term of comparison , the value of production in early 2022 was up by 14.3 %, confirming the solidity of the recovery shown by Italian companies producing glass-processing machinery and technologies . Sector exports in the first four months of 2022 also showed a positive trend : + 9.4 % Again , a comparison with the pre-pandemic period shows that the sector has resumed operating consistently on the international market , too (+ 12.3 % compared with 2019 ). Domestic demand continued to drive deliveries in the sector ’ s domestic market in the first third of
2022 ; in April , these were up by 23.8 % compared with the same period in 2021 , oustripping imports (+ 21.3 %). This figure greatly exceeds that of the pre-pandemic period (+ 14.3 %), confirming that Italian companies have a better grip on the domestic market than their their foreign competitors do . “ Analysing the data for the first part of 2022 — remarks GIMAV president Zandonella Necca —, what we see is a stabilisation of the economic data , confirming the solidity of the sector . However , it is important to keep an eye on the various developments and challenges that are now emerging — such as rising energy and raw material prices , geopolitical crises , rising inflation , the changing value of the euro against the dollar , and the need for careful management of the extraordinary resources earmarked to support Italy ’ s recovery and resilience
