Snowshoeing is a great way to get outdoors and be active in winter. It’s easy to
do: Just tighten the snowshoe bindings
around your winter boots and go.
For many, the best thing about snowshoeing is being able to experience the
solitude and serenity of winter.
Basically, if you can walk, you can
snowshoe. No instruction is needed, but
there are some tips to help make snowshoeing even easier.
Consider using ski poles to help with
balance. Make sure the tip of the snowshoe comes out of the snow before taking
the next step or you may experience a
face plant. Most snowshoes aren’t designed to go backwards. To backtrack, circle back.
Always try to avoid “bridging” a snowshoe, which means propping the tip of the
snowshoe on a log or rock while the tail of
the snowshoe is still on the ground.
