Be Inspired...

In 1952 my granny found out she was expecting her first child. My grandpa was away in Korea fighting in the war

On July 7th 1953 she welcomed her baby boy and with no other means but snail mail she wrote to my papa and told him of the birth of their perfect baby boy.

As the months went by she realized that something wasn't quite right, but she couldn't bear to tell my papa through a letter, as she did not want to worry him.

After seeing several doctors, her baby was diagnosed with Down syndrome. She was told he would probably never live to be a teenager.

Disheartened, but determined they eventually moved from the country to the city where there was a school with a special needs class.

My granny never learned to drive so my papa bought a house a block away from school . That way she could walk him back and forth each day.

He went on to graduate from high school and then at 18 he began working for Sunshine Industries.

He has been working there for fourty two years.

My uncle Stevie turned 61 this past July. Sadly, we lost my granny a year ago but she spent every day of his life with him.

He is one of the biggest components in our family. He still lives at home with my papa. He has a care taker that takes him to the YWCA three times a week to play basket ball, then to Braums for ice cream.

He is perfectly healthy and only takes an aspirin a day as a blood thinner.

He continues to brighten our lives each and every day!
