My sister had bought Lucas a stuffed lamb. I thought this was a sign that he was meant to be in our family.
LAMB is the initials of everyone in our family. Lucas, Andrew, Becky and Mike!
Nine months to the day of his birth, March 6, 2003, his adoption was final. Our entire extended family and some close friends were there in the court room to participate in this momentous occasion.
We celebrate this as Brother Day every year!
Fast forward eleven years. He is the light of our lives. Our family's support has been phenomenal.
He is now mainstreamed in our school system. He has had the same parapro since preschool. They have a very special relationship.
We are from a very small town, and the entire community knows Lucas. He has been accepted and loved by everyone he meets. He has so many friends!
Whenever we are out somewhere, we always run in to someone who knows Lucas, whether from school, church, or from his participation in sports.
Right now some of his favorite things are WWE, playing basketball with his peers, spaghetti and lots of ketchup!
He will also be making his First Communion this May. We are so proud of him, and blessed to call him our son.
My nephew, Tyler, has been an awesome influence in Lucas’ life. He has participated in the Special Olympics Polar Plunge. He also had a tattoo of the Down syndrome ribbon tattooed on his arm with Lucas’ name in it. He even taught Lucas how to spin a basketball on one finger.
Lucas is so loving and full of hugs. He can make us laugh, and turn a bad day into a smile.
He is where he was meant to be!
God knew exactly that our family was his HOME.
Do you have a story to share? We would love to hear from you!
