ACRONYMS YOU NEED TO KNOW MORE ABOUT AS A PARENT & AS AN EDUCATOR . . .

No Child Left Behind (NCLB)

In 2001, this act was passed by President George Bush. The intentions of this act was to improve the performance of America's elementary and secondary schools and make sure no child would be able to attend a school that was failing.

The main topic to discuss is the second major requirement of NCLB that has the greatest effect on teachers:

Scientfically Based Instruction

This means that states and school districts must use scientifically based instructional programming to improve student achievement. This will help so that schools, school districts and states can no longer rely on untested practices with no proof of effectiveness beacuse reliance of such practices leads to widespread ineffectiveness and academic failure.

Schools need to rely on scientifically based inteventions to increase academic perfromance of U.S. students.

And as an educator this will help your professional development!
