Amendments and New Documents Under Development

The following standards updates from the Association for the Advancement
of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) are currently under development, as of
February 2020:
ANSI/AAMI ST79
Comprehensive guide to steam sterilization and sterility assurance
in health care facilities
New amendments for this document have been proposed for:
Departmental
cleaning
Inspection
of insulated
instrumentation
Biological monitor
documentation
Care/cleaning of steam
sterilizers
These amendments are under committee review and ballot, and may
be released in 2020.
ANSI/AAMI ST91
Flexible and semi-rigid endoscope processing in
health care facilities
This document is undergoing review and committee ballot. The revised
document may be released in 2020.
The following AAMI documents are currently open for comment by committee members:
Revision to TIR 34, Water for the reprocessing of medical devices; and
Revision to ST 58, Chemical sterilization and high-level disinfection in
health care facilities.
The following new AAMI standards and technical information reports (TIRs) are currently
under development:
• TIR 109 (for external
transport of health care
processed medical devices)
• TIR 99 [for processing
transesophageal (TEE) and
ultrasound probes]
• A new standard for
vaporized hydrogen
peroxide sterilization
