\The Story of a Girl Who Wanted to Write

Some thoughts about Duke and Cartwright's

Active Reading Model

Having written extensively in the past three years about the issues surrounding the teaching of reading, especially beginning reading, I find that the Active Reading Model provides a wonderful avenue for discussing the key issues surrounding the dialogue around such teaching. Like all good research, the model is grounded in previous research and then builds on it. Nell Duke, with her extensive background in research around the issues surrounding comprehension is in a unique position to add to this ongoing line of research in a ways that include better explainations of how comprehension occurs. Glenda and I would like to again extend our thanks to the authors for allowing us to share this important information with our readers.
