In his professional football career , Hansi Flick played for Bayern Munich ( 1985- 1990 ) and Cologne ( 1990-1992 ). Injuries forced him to retire when he was only 28 years old , after only seven seasons in elite football . During this time he shared the dressing room with severaal legends , such as Jean-Marie Pfaff , Lothar Matthäus , Dieter Hoeness , Klaus Augenthaler , Andreas Brehme and Jürgen Kohler , at Bayern ; and Bodo Illgner and Pierre Littbarski , at Cologne .
He arrived in Munich at the age of 20 from the modest SV Sandhausen , where he played a part in winning four league titles in a row . In 1987 he played in the final of the European Cup , which the Bavarian team lost to Porto , and in 1990 he signed for Cologne . In all , he played 148 games in the Bundesliga .
