Bookworm

I picked up this book at the airport as a last-minute, "I need something to read on my short business flight; and I don't really mind if what I choose isn't great and I don't finish it." I pulled it down from the wall that holds the top charting titles, but didn't give a thought to the fact that this meant the book might actually be great. I didn't realize that I would become engrossed with this book over the next two days and finally figure out what people mean when they describe a book as a page turner, or one they couldn't put down.

This title was a fantastic bit of escape that wove a plot which was both believable and and incredible. The plot was skillfully crafted and the prose was well written; while certain parts of the book I was able to see coming, it was amazing to be blindsided by a major shift midway through the story and still read on for climax. I would highly recommend this book make its way into your summer reading list

As an NCT breastfeeding counsellor, I am always interested to read new books about breastfeeding and being a fan of The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding by the same LLL authors I was eager to read this book. As most parents will attest, sleep is a challenging and emotive subject, so I was intrigued how this would be dealt with in a book selling itself as a how-to guide for making sane and safe decisions based on research. The book can either be read cover to cover or dipped into and is packed with theory, research with references, real-life anecdotes and mother wisdom, and the trademark LLL helpful tearsheets. I really liked the chapter on sleep personalities and places. I read it as a mother of three and although not everything in the book resonated with my experience, I completely understood and appreciated the underlying message of this book that bedsharing makes sense for breastfeeding mothers; we have been doing this for centuries; and if we consider bedsharing and babies sleep patterns as normal, then we can feel empowered and confident to follow our instincts in caring for and comforting our babies. ~Jenny Hemsley
