‘No pain, no gain’ is something we hear all too often, but we feel that somehow it resonates with much of parenthood. During pregnancy, through birth (unless you’re one of the lucky ones), and onwards as your children grow, we experience pain, from our heads, down to the tips of our toes.
Another overused phrase, but rightly a favourite of many a parent, is ‘that which does not kill us, makes us stronger’. And while sometimes the pain can be unbearable, whether it is three nights in a row without sleep, or wrestling a seemingly super-strength toddler out of the supermarket during a tantrum, you face it, and learn how to deal with it. Alongside the joys of watching your little ones grow up, and all of the amazing things they do, that’s a pretty large part of being a parent.
In this issue we not only look at how to overcome many of the different forms pain can take, but celebrate it. We have some serious articles on tackling both the physical and mental issues that many women and men encounter, and more light-hearted views on the highs and lows.
On a rather separate note, now that both of us have learned to cope with our firstborn, we are both embarking on adventure number two. So it is with much sadness that we say farewell to our editorship of the Clapham and Balham NCT magazine. We’ve had a wonderful time hearing your stories, and sharing them with other parents, and wish you all the very best with your own parenting journeys.
