The who and what that makes up family can be a complex concept. As a Canadian expat in England, going on four years now, it has only become more complex for me. Don’t get me wrong, aside from the “crazy” aunt, uncle or cousin I know we all have, family, no matter how complex is an amazing gift. For first-time parents, a baby’s arrival is both the start of a new family and an extension of one that already exists. And as those children grow and others are added, families evolve.
In this Spring issue our members share their stories from pregnancy through to parenthood and we see the impact family can have on us at all stages. From the influence family tradition can have on naming a child to passing on and sharing skills from father to son we all strive to make lasting connections and grow together. We also share stories that show the different ways we communicate, from the early body and facial cues that infants use to the modern tools that help long distance family members stay in touch.
As I always like to remind you, our readers and members, this is your magazine and we are creating it for you. I would love to hear from any of you and, if you are feeling inclined, perhaps our next issue will be the one where you share your experience with others. All questions, comments and contributions for Special Delivery can be sent to me at [email protected]. I look forward to hearing from you.
