Special Delivery Autumn 2017 | Page 25

My labour started in earnest at 39 weeks plus 6 but I had irregular contractions 2 days before

Midnight : Waters broke, contractions intensified quickly.
12:30am: Contractions 2 minutes apart & increasingly painful. Midwife advised a warm bath as pain relief & to monitor contractions.
1:00am My husband dialled 999 1:20am 2 ambulances arrived; 1 for me & 1 for the baby in case there were any issues after birth. The crew set up our guest bedroom for an emergency home delivery. Given gas & air and encouraged to push.
2:00am The community midwife for emergency home birth arrived.

2:45am: Arrived but the ambulance couldn't get in for 10 long minutes.

3:00am: The Midwives guided me on how to push & breathe. Together with my husband, they helped me get into different positions. We tried laying on the bed, all fours, birth stools, birth pillow… almost every position we could think of!

5:15am: Finally, our beautiful, healthy baby girl was born.
