Having a family of your own can be a wonderful time to start some new Christmas traditions. Local NCT members tell us about the Christmas traditions they've started with their families.

Your Christmas Traditions...

Christmas has always been a big deal in our household and we like to get the biggest Christmas tree we can fit in our house! Having Rafe join the fun last year made it even more special. We spent an afternoon making Christmas cards with Rafe's hand prints (top tip: strip off and cover the furniture, 8 month olds and paint gets messy!). Our friends and family loved them so we intend to add making cards to our Christmas preparations every year. We also put out sherry and a mince pie for Father Christmas and a carrot for Rudolph, although last year, Rafe was just interested in trying to eat the carrot himself!

I became an auntie 6 years ago, and for the last few years I have always made and decorated a gingerbread house with my lovely nephew. My younger niece joined in with the fun last year, and although lots more sweeties were eaten than actually made it onto the house, we all have such a fun Christmassy time doing it. So, now my daughter is 18 months old and loves baking, I think we’ll make it a tradition in our household too!

My mum has decided that she will give Felix a Christmas Tree decoration each year. It means that he’ll have carefully chosen bauble or trinket that has meaning to it, and one day, when he has his own tree to decorate, he’ll already have some lovely things to put on it.
