Speakeasy! Winter 2013 | Page 3

Issue No. 1 Winter 2013 Editor Rita Rose Design & Layout Rita Rose Richard Colley ello! H A very warm welcome to the first printed issue of Speakeasy! This magazine is about celebrating the glamour and excitement of 1920s and 30s fashion and lifestyle. The era was bookended by two world wars, not to mention the Great Depression, and yet the innovations, elegance and appreciation for life that existed over those two decades were incredible. Fashion and lifestyles underwent dramatic changes as people embraced new ideas whilst huge technological advances, political issues and social changes took place. It is an era that, I believe, deserves to be remembered. Additional Photos shutterstock.com That time of year is upon us once again! So why not celebrate Christmas 1920s and 30s style? Turn to page 4 for some ideas on traditional festive decorations, and on page 40 you can discover the history of the iconic image of Father Christmas. 1930s winter coats are some of the most elegant and romantic styles ever worn so check out the 1930s winter fashion feature on page 23.
