The BIG Interview - Tommy Misra
We continue our series of interviews with interesting people with
learning disabilities in Hounslow. Today we meet someone who’s
at college & volunteering through our Peer Information Project.
Please introduce yourself...
I am Tommy Misra and I am currently studying
at West Thames college and volunteering at
the Barnardos charity shop in Teddington.
What does that job involve?
I check all the toys that people have donated
to the shop to see if they work and if there are
any parts missing. I also make sure that they
are clean.
I help to organise the clothes and books that
people have donated. I use the price tag gun
to attach labels to the clothes and fill out
labels so that we are able to claim Gift Aid on
some of the donations.
What do you like most about the job?
I like it when things have been sorted and
well-organised. I like to help people in the
shop and I like it that we raise money for
children and families that are in need.
Do you do any other volunteer activities?
I take part in the Duke of Edinburgh award
scheme at Hounslow youth centre on Thursday evenings.

We have a sports club from 5 to 6 PM. I have
also been studying healthy eating and I have
learnt how to cook pasta. We then eat dinner
together.
Your plans when you leave college?
I would like to find a paid job.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to listen to rock music and heavy metal.
I also enjoy YouTube and watching football.
