The prevalence of COTS is also being monitored through specially created , continuously monitored coral conservation programmes.

The data from these monitoring stations allow scientists to assess the effectiveness of varying control methods and to determine which sites need to be revisited.

Moreover, monitoring helps the scientists to investigate the current state of outbreaks along the reef.

The data can also be used to predict which factors influence the likelihood of COTS outbreak using computational modeling.

Despite these efforts, COTS are still one of the most fertile species and scientists are continuing to struggle in their attempts to limit the COTS population.

However, increasing awareness around the danger posed by this predator species as well as fostering understanding about the threats and value of coral reefs can make a significant contribution to bringing about gradual change. This is integral to strengthening international effort to save our coral reefs.
