The 2024 Grammy Awards kicked off with performances by music powerhouses Brandy, Olivia Rodrigo, and Burna Boy.
The excitement was noticeable as awards were handed out, with Victoria Monet claiming the title of Best New Artist and Taylor Swift clinching Album of the Year for "Midnights."
Rap icon Jay Z was honored with the Grammy Global Icon Award. This prestigious accolade recognizes artists who have made a significant impact not only in the music industry but also on a global scale.
Hailing from Brooklyn, New York, Jay Z, known for hits like "Empire State of Mind," "U Don't Know," and "Where I'm From," delivered an acceptance speech that resonated with artists and fans alike.
During his speech, Jay Z took a moment to acknowledge his wife, Beyoncé Knowles. He highlighted the fact that, despite Beyoncé's numerous Grammy wins, she has never secured the Album of the Year award.
"I don't want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than everyone and never won Album of the Year," Jay Z stated
Jay Z offered words of encouragement to artists who may not have been nominated or won awards. He emphasized the importance of perseverance, urging them to keep showing up and not be discouraged by the pursuit of a Grammy.
In retrospect, JAY Z concludes letting the academy know to “get it right "when it comes to nominations and various categories, he ended his speech on a lighter note speaking about his daughter, Blue Ivy, who was also on stage.
