WHAT TO BRING
WHAT TO BRING AND
WHAT WILL BE PROVIDED
The SBBU challenge is self-supported so you will need to bring most of what you need, including:
• Camping chair / stretcher / mattress, pillow and blanket
• Food, drinks and supplements o Some examples of the types of foods to bring:
• Mixed nuts, cranberries, apples, pasta with gravy, soups, biltong / dry wors( nothing too heavy) o The Settebello restaurant is on the Italian Club grounds( very close to where the barracks are) so you will be able to order from there during restaurant hours as well o Remember to eat early and often – don’ t wait until you’ re hungry
• Running gear o Challenger number and bib o Longs and shorts, peak caps, beanies / buffs, gloves, jacket
• Evenings and early mornings will be cool o Changes of clothes and socks – several if possible o Extra pair of running shoes if you have o Reflector vest / clothing o Head torch and spare batteries o Compression socks are always handy o Sunglasses o Warm jacket / tracksuit for downtime o Light rain jacket in case of rain
• Vaseline / bum cream o To be applied liberally and everywhere o Please don’ t forget to apply Vaseline on your feet – 100 kilometres and 100 miles are both a long way to go with flaming blistered feet!
• Sense of humour
• Strong mind
The following will be provided:
• Barracks: The pool venue at the Italian Club, Bedfordview o Has electricity, showers and toilets
• Please bring battery packs with as well though – in case there aren’ t sufficient plug points in the venue o Hand soap, body wash and toilet paper will also be provided
• Water cooler and urn for boiling water
• Tea, coffee, milk and sugar
• Popcorn machine o Secret snack of many ultrarunners and will help keep the cramps away
• Limited drinks( Cokes, Powerades, etc) o Please bring your own as your primary source of hydration
