This letter serves to confirm that The Cows are an official fund-raising arm of the CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation South Africa and that the SBBU is one of the recognised fund-raising events associated with The Cows.
The Cows and CHOC fully endorse the fundraising for this year’ s SBBU, to be held between the 3 rd and 4 th May 2025 where Challengers will be running 100 kms or 100 miles in 24 hours. As part of our fundraising for CHOC, the SBBU Challengers aim to raise R1 million. Should we achieve this target, the SBBU Challengers would have raised over R2 million to date for CHOC. The SBBU was founded in 2022 and is a Challenge designed for people to both change their own lives through doing something completely out of the ordinary( and something where success is definitely not guaranteed) and to help support all the little superheroes fighting cancer. We are so proud of all our“ Cows” who take on this Challenge and we would not be able to have as great an impact as we do without them. Having originally been hosted in Bedfordview in 2022 and 2023, the Challenge has subsequently grown and events have now also been also been held in Cape Town and Treverton College.
The Cows are all about FUNdraising and our main ways of doing this is through various sporting events. We have been overwhelmed by the support even in these tough times and have realised that this herd is UNSTOPPABLE … however we need donors to help us in our efforts to be able to continue supporting CHOC and all that they do for Childhood Cancer.
CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation is the only organisation that provides comprehensive countrywide support for children with cancer and other life-threatening blood disorders, and their families. In developed countries childhood cancer has largely become curable, with the overall survival rate reaching between 70 % and 80 % or higher whilst in South Africa the rate is closer to 50 %. CHOC aims to ensure that more children in South Africa are cured and that the survival rate goes up. For close on four decades, our holistic approach has evolved to ensure children are diagnosed early, access paediatric oncologist care, and are supported throughout the lengthy treatment phase, which can last up to three years. CHOC also promotes early detection and plays a leading advocacy role. Without CHOC, many children – particularly those from low-income households living far from treatment centres – would not adhere to the necessary but arduous treatment path.
One herd; one quest: to make a difference to children with cancer. Thank you for supporting us in this quest!

Yours sincerely, Daisy
