With a snow day make up of February 19 th . My colleagues and I are looking for volunteers from local businesses and organizations that would be willing to give of their time and spend the day at Sparta High School impacting our students. The Reality Store simulation is similar to the game of life. Our students are given a career, salary and a family. They are then tasked with managing their finances for a month. The volunteers man booths that the students visit to accomplish tasks, such as pay for electric bills, purchasing a house and balancing their check book. The volunteers assist the students in making decisions, help them fill out their check book correctly and offer guidance on navigating the various life tasks that need to be accomplished. The Reality Store is a key experience in the area of financial literacy that opens the eyes of our juniors and gives them perspective on life after high school. The commitment would be from 7:30 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. with a light breakfast and lunch provided. This year’s event will reach approximately 200 total students from Sparta High School. The Reality Store will be open for the entire school day and you will interact with at least one-fourth of the student body!
