2019 Elroy-Sparta and 400 State Trail Closures Member Spotlight In August of 2018, heavy rains and storms caused the temporary closure of Wildcat Moutain State Park and closures of segments along the Elroy-Sparta, 400 and Hillsboro State Trails. The Department of Natural Resources has been working diligently to reopen the park and trails. Today, Wildcat Mountain State Park is completely repaired and open to the public. Major repairs still remain on sections of the Elroy-Sparta, 400 and Hillsboro State Trails with some sections to re-open in 2019 and others by 2020. P Sparta The public is reminded to stay off all closed trail sections until repairs have been made. P Norwalk B OPEN Tunnel #2 C Tunnel #1 Wilton Sparta to Norwalk (11 miles) D The 11 mile stretch of trail from the Sparta Train Depot to downtown Norwalk is open and ready for riders! This segment includes Tunnel #3, the longest tunnel on the trail at 0.75 miles long. The tunnel is located about 7 miles from Sparta and 4 miles from Norwalk. With over 50 miles of the La Crosse River and Great River State Trails open and three State Parks within 25 miles of Elroy, there are many ways to keep exploring Wisconsin! Starting in Sparta, travel west across 50 miles of open trail to Marshland, passing through Onalaska and along the Mississippi River.
