could and he exploded forwards so fast he almost
flew from the chair altogether. Og laughed and
clapped.
the floor flew up around him in a massive cloud.
He leaned forward and pushed with all his power.
He was so fast the whee-yuls were a blur!
Og stayed up with him all night to practice for the
race the next day. By the time the red morning
arrived, Dug was an expert. He’d never felt more
confident.
Around him dinosaurs tripped up on their own
feet or tripped each other by accident (or on
purpose). Dug didn’t have any problem with
his whee-yuls. They glided smoothly across
the ground, speeding ahead of everyone! As
he looked behind fewer and fewer dinosaurs
followed him. Finally there was only Lug. Lug
wasn’t giving up, in fact, he was gaining on him!
He rolled up to the starting line among the
dinosaurs, ignoring all their sniggers and
whispers. He would prove to them what he was
made of.
“ What is THAT?” came a snort from behind him.
Of course, it was Lug. “ You look so SILLY.”
“These are my legs,” he said to Lug, calmly, “ and
they’re much better than yours.”
Lug went red. “They are NOT,” he yelled, “ just
you wait and see!” And with that stormed off to
his usual place on the starting line.
Og waved to him from the cave and Dug waved
back, ignoring all the giggles around him. He
settled in his place and focused on the finish line
ahead. He didn’t see Lug hide something in his
claws.
Then Elder Big appeared and the crowd fell
silent. If he noticed Dug, he didn’t show it. And
with a mighty ROAR!! the race began!
Dug pushed himself forwards so hard the dust on

Dug could feel his arms begin to tire. He told
himself off - Silly! that’s what happens when
you don’t get a good night’s sleep! But he was
determined to win. He pushed himself onwards.
As Lug drew even with him he pushed as hard as
he could towards the finish.
Lug was so close to him now, he heard him shout
“Take that!” and he saw him throw something into
his wheels! A dirty trick! He had thrown a stone
into his whirling whee-yuls! The whee-yuls locked
and Dug felt them explode apart. He was thrown
forward, high into the air, right over Lug’s head,
and over the finish line.
Dug had won!
Og cheered him from his cave, and rest of the
dinosaurs cheered too. What a show! They’d
never seen anything like it. Dug sat up in the dirt,
grinning happily as they all cheered: DUG! DUG!
DUG! DUG!
