The Amazing Spider-Man

Any good superhero movie should have a great plot, with wonderful actors, and a villain who can make your skin crawl. The Amazing Spider-Man has all of those characteristics, plus a little comedy. One of the first things that separate this film from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy, consisting of Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2, and Spider-Man 3 is that this film follows the comic books better.

Other people have said that this movie is a flop, only because the origin story takes an hour to explain. Personally I thought that the hour long explanation of the origin was what Spider-Man fans needed emphasizing that his first crush was on Gwen Stacy and not Mary Jane Watson.

The movie started off with a four year old Peter Parker who was played by Max Charles, playing a game of hide-and go-seek with his dad when he discovers that his father’s study was ransacked. After a hasty bit of packing His parents leave him and his father’s briefcase with Aunt May and Uncle Ben, before leaving to do something.

Teenage Peter Parker is an Outcast nerd who wears contacts most of the time instead of glasses; he is bullied by Flash Thompson, played by Chris Zylka, a lot. He likes to stand up to other people who are bullied by Flash who does not like to be called by his real name, Eugene.

Peter discovers a briefcase that belonged to his Dad, the same briefcase left with them years earlier. Leading Peter to discover Dr. Curt Connors who works at Oscorp and is trying to perfect Cross species genetics but has never been able to since Richard Parker's death and the lose of the formula used on the spiders.

The actors were well cast for this film, who better to play Gwen Stacy than Emma Stone who seems to fit with that character.

Gwen Stacy is pretty, popular, smart, and a little bit demanding at times. She is her Daddy’s little girl being the oldest with two younger brothers. Before the cast was released for the film and after the film was announced I was not expecting Gwen Stacy’s character to be so, well amazing.

Some people were a little miffed that Tobey Maguire did not audition to play the part of Spider-Man/Peter Parker again and that Andrew Garfield who is British got the roll. Still Andrew Garfield was a great Peter Parker. Hey Tobey Maguire even said that when he heard Andrew was going to play Peter he literally went “Perfect.” Andrew did most of his own stunts for the film except after attempting to “swing” where he got a bloody nose and an olympic gymnast had to be called in.

Peter in this film you see is still the person always taking pictures but not selling them to the Daily Bugle, thank goodness. He uses more technology for well everything we see him using a computer to research things right from the beginning, then a cell phone throughout the film to keep in contact with people.

Now there were several choices for the villain, but the script crew decided that the best villain for the story was the Lizard or better known as Dr. Curtis Connors. When he becomes the lizard he loses all sense of control and only knows that he wants to get rid of the weakness in New York.

Rhys Ifans, plays the character and described him as a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Ifans did most of the voicing for his character when he was the lizard, as well as using the green screen suit they made him wear to do the lizard’s stunts.

Captain George Stacy is Gwen’s father and was played by Denis Leary, yes Diego from the Ice Age films. He was MARVELOUS at this role.

His character is very protective over Gwen because she is his only daughter and his oldest, he is even somewhat protective over Peter at times..

Aunt May is played by Sally Field.

Aunt May was the only thing that seemed to stay normal throughout the film as a kind
