A Midnight Drama Ajay was all alone as his parents had gone to a nearby village for a wedding. This was the first time he was all by himself. He was terrified to be alone as he had overheardhis maid talking about some unusual sounds coming from his neighbour’s house which was locked for more than 10 years. He kept his mind busy watching movies and completing his homework. But as it grew dark, his fear began to grow. It was midnight and it was pouring heavily. A flash of lightening and the sound of thunder woke Ajay up. As he was trying to figure out what was happening, a screeching sound of a woman crying for help grabbed his attention. Although Ajay was shivering badly, he decided to have a look. He took out his umbrella and marched out of his house like a brave soldier. At that point of time, an umbrella was the only weapon he could think of. He found an opened window and peeped into the house. He could see a woman who seriously seemed to be in needofhelp. A sympathetic Ajay wanted to console her. As the door was surprisingly open, Ajay rushed in without thinking of the consequences. The sudden appearance of a stranger inside her house petrified the woman. She was about to throw a vase at him when he exclaimed that he came to help. She couldn’t understand. Ajay explained the whole story. She burst into laughter. Apparently, she had moved in recently. She was a struggling actor and was practicing her dialogues. His unthoughtful act had made him look so foolish. Blushing, he stepped out of the house. As he was leaving, a crafty smile on her face caught his eyes. Everything seemed so strange about her. An apprehensive Ajay rushed home, locked all the doors and windows and went to sleep. Pratiksha Soori, 9A
