In South Africa , gender-based violence is seen as a second pandemic causing many families to be dysfunctional which affects women and children the most . We at SPAR have taken up our president ’ s call to end gender-based violence with our very own GBV awareness campaign .
Our core values revolve around family , passion , and entrepreneurship and in that , women play a fundamental role . The SPAR Women ’ s Challenge embodies our dedication to supporting women in our community as we strive to bring families together .

On behalf of SPAR KZN , I extend a warm and enthusiastic welcome to all of you joining us for this incredible event .
Furthermore , The Open Door Crisis Care Centre is our official race charity . They are a non-profit interdenominational outreach organisation established in 1997 by Thora Mansfield . This invaluable charity makes a difference to those who have suffered at the hands of others by offering a holistic , multifaceted one-stop crisis and trauma centre with counselling , social services , and support groups . They were a standout choice as their mission ties in with our pledge to lead the fight against GBV and provide support to the less fortunate .
With The Durban SPAR Women ’ s 10 / 5km Challenge going back to its original format this year , we will be taking this event to the next level of excitement and anticipate a sold-out crowd . We simply cannot wait to see thousands of participants fire off at the starting line as they stand in solidarity for this amazing cause . See you there !

As many of you will know we are actively involved in a number of sporting codes , primarily to help develop sport in line with our Brand values . In KZN , our SPAR KZN Schoolgirls ’ Hockey Challenge , now in its 13th year , has gone from strength to strength . Our support of Indoor Hockey and Amazulu Soccer has also helped to create awareness and grow sport , and our fledgling SPAR KZN Schoolgirls ’ Fast 5 ’ s Netball Challenge is making positive waves with 7 tournaments being held in our province . We are particularly excited about the upcoming Netball World Cup , set to take place in Cape Town in July . This prestigious tournament will showcase the incredible talent and dedication of athletes from around the globe , and certainly inspire youngsters .
We believe that by providing platforms and resources for the nurturers in our communities to participate in sport , we are not only developing their physical well-being , but also empowering them to overcome challenges , build confidence , and achieve their full potential .
We extend our sincere appreciation to each and every one of you for joining us in this celebration of health , community , and the indomitable spirit of women .
