SPACES OF UNCERTAINTY 2017 | Page 71

DAY 7
Helene Thümmel living the precarity
Uncertainty is extending, while identity is losing space. The contemporary places are precarious and virtual. In the three-dimensional space one can navigate along the xyz-axes, through fixing the pivot, one can claim space and and finite duplication reaches infinity. But if one cannot control the program, it causes disorientation. But( god) google knows it all, the right shortcut, the answer to all ever asked questions. The loss of navigation is only personal, it can be solved by locating others who got lost in dislocation. Every problem is detachable, if one knows the right questions. All solutions are online, discussed in threads and blogs, everything will be answered on youtube if one can be patient enough to wait for the end of the clip. And the real world is precarious as well, with a common deficit of orientation. Google maps shows the way. The virtual uncertainty is manifested in reality: speculation, mismanagement, terror, error, failure, the fear of failing, unemployment, traffic jams, refugee camps, temporal cultural business, bypass, blockades, fences: construction sites. In the virtual as well as in the real word anchor points are getting lost, snap functions are not working proper, groups are dissolved, Boolean functions are failing. Is an update still helping? Or a new start? Reinstalling the operating system could help, but which one is compatible? As long one is connected, there is something to hold onto. The internet hotspot generates contemporary democracy, but the system is dividing users into first, second, third class. Society is moving back in history while working into the future.
