Stuttgart Under Construction
The initial concept of Stuttgart Under Construction was to map the city through the over abundance of building sites. The calendar acts as a post-feminist commentary on the political issues regarding an ambiguous urban feature of Stuttgart today. Through the lighthearted spirit of this project we have been able to engage directly with the public, making people laugh and become more aware of the constant change happening around them. The ‚ pin-up‘ imagery is radically juxtaposed in the masculine construction environment. The body, here, has become an artistic tool; the calendar is an assemblage of the the documentation of a public performative process. This performance challenged social convention through the outrageous use of the nude female form, the group quickly discovered that the public attitude toward this behaviour was, surprisingly, disinterested. As a result of the public acceptance, we were liberated. The performance became more adventurous, bolder and focused in on the most public construction sites in Stuttgart.
