Interesting work of Zond satellite performing an experiment. Unusual. 279 Collection of about 60 different full sheets of Russian commemoratives from the 1960s, 1970s & 1980s in complete, unfolded, unbroken sheets of MINT never hinged stamps commemorating manned Space flights. Very attractive. We have never seen as extensive a group of complete sheets of Russian space stamps like this offered before. Many complete sets with high catalog value. 1960s ‘SOYUZ LAUNCH’ SPACE ART BY V. RUBAN .............................................................. PH $200-300 Mixed media on Masonite(8x11"). Unusual 3-D work depicting Soyuz capsule being launched on Energia rocket. Done in shades of grey against black velvet background. Includes: small stockbook with 149 mostly MINT & Used stamps primarily from Czechoslovakia, Russia & USA; group of 52 USA Space FDCs with duplication for years 1962-77 including some with NASA Local Post labels, one joint USA/Russia Apollo/Soyuz FDC and 4 Russia Apollo/Soyuz FDCs/covers; four coins/tokens commemorating Skylab (x2) made from flown metal, Project Apollo/Apollo 11 and Apollo 8 made from flown metal. Overall fine to very fine. – COVERS – 280 1939 USA AIRMAIL CANNON MAIL COVER .... PH $750-1000 One of the most unusual airmail covers we have ever seen. Cover reads around border in red & blue: ‘AI RMAIL CANNON MAIL’. Single 16¢ air special delivery stamp tied by Feb 17, 1939 Tampa, FLA cancel, words ‘Delivered from/the Cannon this/day Feb 17/39’ typed next to address that reads: ‘Miss S-Tamp-A/In care of the Cannon Act/Pan American DeSoto Exposition/Tampa/Florida’. Cover ink signed by Hugo Zacchini, Mario Zacchini & Miss Stamp-A, Miss Arlene Sallade. Hugo Zacchini was one of the fathers of Human Cannonball circus stunt. This cover originates from period in which Zacchini had two sisters shot out of cannon in succession, more than 150 feet in air. Unique act called Zacchini’s Repeating Rocket Cannon Sensation. Apparently, each sister carried some mail along with them as they were launched from cannon on this date. Accompanied by collateral material that includes four color flyer from late 1960s advertising the act. Zacchini family had been performing the act for some years. PH $200-300 Large group of about 80 recovery covers for every mission from Glenn’s MA-6 Mercury flight in 1962 to Apollo-Soyuz in 1975 with some Apollo unmanned as well. Highlights include an MA-6 USS NOA cover and a Gemini 8 USS Leonard Mason cover. Most in excellent condition. Also with this group are about 50 early Soviet space mission covers.
