1969 BASEBALL MVP SIGNED FIRST DAY COVER
W/ MARIS, MANTLE, DIMAGGIO, WILLIAMS .. PH $1500-2500
Astounding find! A First Day Cover commemorating 100 years
of professional baseball (post-marked 9/24/69), carries TEN
autographs of then-former Most Valuable Player winners, eight
of whom are HOFers. But the two non-HOFers are no
slouches... Roger Maris (blue ballpoint) and Elston Howard
(blue ballpoint) are both rare signatures. Other signers on this
incredible item: Joe DiMaggio (blue ballpoint), Mickey Mantle
(blue sharpie), Ted Williams (blue ballpoint), Phil Rizzuto (blue
ballpoint), Lefty Grove (black felt tip), Lou Boudreau (black
felt tip), Charles Gehringer (black ink), and Yogi Berra (black
felt tip). DiMaggio’s signature is certainly of the older style
(larger looping ‘G’s) and was likely signed contemporaneous
to this FDC issue (Williams could also have been... others not
certain). What an outstanding item representing the last years
of Baseball’s Golden Age!
Commemorative First Day Cover with a cachet honoring the
100th anniversary of ‘America’s National Game,’ bearing an
induction day postmark from June 12, 1939, in Cooperstown.
Cover signed by HOF legend Honus Wagner vertically in blue
fountain pen as ‘J. Honus Wagner.’ Signature has slight smear
in the last name, but otherwise very bold. Cachet has some
toning issues. An outstanding Sports memorabilia collectible.
